Rihanna has opened
up like never before about getting back together with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown,
and what it means for her public image. "I decided it was more important
for me to be happy," she tells contributing editor Josh Eells in the new
issue of Rolling Stone, out Friday, January 31st. "I wasn't going
to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my
mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd
rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

Just In: BlackBerry maker changes name, unveils new smartphone
BlackBerry Z10, Q10
Research In Motion Ltd unveiled a long-delayed line of smartphones on Wednesday it says will put the company on the comeback trail in a market it once dominated, promising its BlackBerry 10 devices will wow consumers and businesses alike when they finally hit stores.
Signaling his hopes for a fresh start for the company that pioneered on-your-hip email, Chief Executive Thorsten Heins said RIM was abandoning the name it has used since its inception in 1985. From now on, he told tech analysts and other guests, the company will just be known as BlackBerry.
“We have transformed ourselves inside and out, and we have defined our vision … which makes today the perfect time for another big announcement I want to share. From this point forward, RIM becomes BlackBerry.” Heins said at the New York launch. “It is one brand; it is one promise.”
RIM shares rallied initially on Wednesday, but soon fell to levels about 7 percent below Tuesday’s close. Over the past four years, the stock has dropped as much as 90 percent below its 2008 peak as the BlackBerry lost ground to rival devices. But in the last four months its shares have more than doubled in value as buzz grew about the new devices.

PHOTOSPEAK: South African woman invents anti-rape female condoms
An anti-rape female condom using a different design was invented by Sonnet Ehlers, a South African woman.
Ehlers was motivated to create it while working as a blood technician with the South African Blood Transfusion Service, during which time she met many rape victims.
Ehler mentioned that she was inspired to create RAPEX (later renamed to Rape-aXe) when a patient who had been raped stated, “If only I had teeth down there,” suggesting the myth of the vagina dentata. Initially called RapeX, the name was changed in 2006 upon discovering that RAPEX is also an EU warning system against dangerous goods on the market.

Why we pulled out of CAN — Catholic bishops
By Monday Ateboh
The Christian Association of Nigerian, CAN, an umbrella body for the country’s teeming Christians, descended into full-blown crisis Wednesday with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria making public its decision to pull out of the fold over the way the Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor-led executive is running the association.
The Catholic bishop’s action is perhaps the first time in the association’s 37-year history that any of its five blocs would pull out over alleged poor leadership and politicization of the association.
CAN was formed in 1976 by five Christian blocs in the country: the Christian Council of Nigeria; the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; Organisation of African Instituted Churches, and the Evangelical Fellowship of West Africa.

Forcing fruits to ripen is dangerous for health, stop it – Experts Warn
Those who are into the habit of forcing fruits to ripe prematurely in order to consume them, or sell to others who consume them have been warned to desist from the habit as it is dangerous to human health and can cause damage to the liver and other vital organs.
This warning is being made by Dr Adamu Onu of Garki General Hospital, Abuja. Onu, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja, on Tuesday, said the application of chemicals on fruits caused such fruits to ripe prematurely. He further said the practice distorts the natural taste and flavour of such fruits, while he advised fruits dealers, who usually applied carbide on fruits, to desist from the act.
Also, Miss Ebere Nwachukwu, an industrial chemist, condemned the practice of hastening the natural ripening processes of fruits with chemicals. Nwachukwu said the practice could cause fruits to lose natural ingredients and the supplements they were meant to provide.
According to her, “Ripening is the final stage of the maturation process; any attempt to force a fruit to ripe prematurely can destroy the natural ingredients in it… Calcium carbide absorbs moisture and produces acetylene, which is a weak analog of ethylene, responsible for triggering ripening process,” she explained.
