A’Ibom Assembly gets principal officers

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr. Aniekan Uko, has announced the names of the principal officers for the state’s sixth Assembly.

Uko announced the names of the principal officers during a plenary in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, on Tuesday.
He stated that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state had approved the appointment of Mr. Udo Akpan, a member representing Oruk Anam state constituency, as the House Majority Leader.
The member representing Etinan state constituency, Mr. Aniefiok Akpan, was also appointed as the Deputy Majority Leader while the member representing Ini constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, was named as the Chief Whip. Mr. Nse Essien representing Onna state constituency is the Deputy Chief Whip.
Uko, while congratulating the principal officers, asked them to contribute their best to the smooth running of the sixth Assembly and enact laws that would bring the dividends of democracy to the Akwa Ibom people.
The House had, during its inaugural sitting on June 8, elected the Speaker, and his deputy, Mr. Effiong Bassey from Oron/Udung Uko state constituency.
The House received a motion on notice during the plenary on “Indiscriminate advertising on and defacing of walls of our public educational institutions,” from a member representing Nsit Ubium state constituency, Mr. Onofiok Luke.
According to Luke, the motion is to urge the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, to direct the removal of all forms of advertising from the premises of public institutions in the state.
