The summary of
the abandoned projects as presented by the group on their twitter handle (@Akwa_CrossFacts)
is as follows: 121 roads, 75 classroom blocks, 69 rural water schemes and 43
mini-electrification projects.
The post also revealed
that road projects top the list of the abandoned projects followed by classroom
blocks, rural water, and mini-electrification schemes.
In most of the over 400 threat of comments and reactions to the post, people complained that the problem was from within, stressing that the root of mismanagement of NDDC policy could be traced to leaders, especially FG appointees who focused their attention on looting and empowering themselves through NDDC instead of striving to achieve the commission’s goals and targets in the region. That there were no checks and balances in place to ensure that jobs are executed effectively.
Meanwhile, on
Monday whiles being questioned by the Ad hoc Committee of the House of
Representatives’ investigating the activities of the agency, the MD of NDDC,
Prof Pondei fainted and Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta revealed
that members of the National Assembly were the greatest beneficiaries of the
Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, contracts.
