Aderen have all been chosen by Facebook for its community accelerator's
programme.
These successful Nigerians were chosen from of a large pool of applicants following the call for submissions in March 2020.
The successful applicants selected for the six months programme will be learning
from world experts on how to build their communities.
Facebook has selected 12 African leaders for its 6 months community accelerator initiative programme.
The project's main aim is to help communities with the funding,
mentorship and training so that they can grow. The leadership programme was
launched in 2018 as a
channel to invest in leaders who are working on building viable
communities around the world in order to bring about sustainable change and development.
All applicants
had been earlier been requested to apply for selection in March 2020. Following the announcement,
Facebook received a total number of 77 submissions, out of which 12 were
selected from Sub-Saharan Africa. Participants will receive funding and
support from the
social media giants.
The programme will be releasing up to $3 million and will give each of the
participants $30,000 (N11,607,600). The shortlisted leaders
will be
tutored by experts on how to better their communities in the first of three months of the programme.
The later part of the programme will be used
to teach them how to execute their plans with great support from the project.
Meanwhile
Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is among the top
7 richest men in the world in 2020 with a fortune of $54.7bn. Forbes 30 Under
30: which amazing game changers made the list? Jeff Bezos led all as the
richest man with $113 billion net worth. Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder,
made the second cut with $98 billion. Bernard Arnault and Family in France made
number three with $76 billion worth.
The United States had also earlier announced plans to sponsor
Nigerians that can come up with programmes aimed at
improving the lives of youths in the south-south geopolitical zone. The
disclosure was made by the US embassy in Nigeria, which said interested
individuals should submit a proposal detailing how they would organise the
programme.
