Madman Stabs Neighbour to Death in Uyo ( Warning:This report may contain violent or graphics content)

A man suspected to be mentally challenged identified as Papa who resides with his father, Ime David at No. 7, Nwaniba Road, Uyo went berserk in the early hours of Friday killing an innocent man in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to eyewitness reports Papa, who roams the city with an amputated hand, is notorious for his violent behaviour on the streets of Uyo metropolis had tried to escape after the incident but was caught around Oron Road by some angry youths who beat him to a pulp.

Narrating the story, a neighbour, Emem Ime Solomon told the media that the deceased, Okon Nya Nyong, 39, hails from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State and was a petty trader.

According to her the incident occurred at about 6:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2020 when Okon Nyong had gone to fetch water and was stabbed in the back with a broken bottle by the suspect, while carrying his water containers back home.

She said the deceased who had attempted to escape his attacker had ran towards his apartment but had collapsed a few meters to his house and the suspect closed in on him, stabbing him with reckless abandon. The victim slumped after losing a lot of blood and was eventually pronounce dead at a nearby hospital where he was rushed for treatment by neighbours.

Also speaking on the incident, siblings of the deceased, Edet Okon Nyong and Ikwo Okon Nyong, along with their uncle, Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, said they arrived Uyo from Cross River State after receiving the sad news and were very saddened over the gruesome murder of their brother.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Frederic N'nudam who confirmed the incident in a press statement,

 Told the media that the police had visited the crime scene and arrested Papa and his father, Ime David and that the suspect has confessed to the crime upon interrogation by the police.

The PPRO also disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the State Police Command, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo for further investigations.
