Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom on Tuesday dropped the
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Helen Ukpabio,
from his cabinet.
The sack was contained in a statement issued in Uyo by Mr Aniekan
Umanah, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications.
It said the commissioner’s sack was with immediate effect.
The statement also said the governor approved the retirement of the Permanent Secretary in the same ministry, Mrs Arit Okpo.
According to the statement, the governor expressed appreciation to
them for their services to the state and wished them success in their
future endeavours.
No reason was, however, given for the governor’s action.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ukpabio was a director
in the state Ministry of Education before her appointment as the
Commissioner for Education in 2012.
She was latter redeployed to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare where she was dropped from the cabinet.
