Lagos State alerts public to scam mail on Facebook

The Lagos State Government has alerted the general public to an email on a Facebook account fraudulently set up under the name of “Babatunde Fashola” .

In a statement by Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr. Hakeem Bello, the email requested unsuspecting members of the public to pay N2,700 to a Guaranty Trust Bank account as application form fee for employment.

The statement said the GT Bank account was opened in the name of one Onyebe Earnest, who according to the state government, had been sending bulk short messages (SMS) with the name “CSC Lagos” to advise the public on the GTB account number into which the money should be paid.

It dissociated the state government from the message, warning the general public to regard such SMS as “false and misleading”.

It further clarified that employment processes in the Civil Service Commission would not require the payment of any fee, stressing that the government had the responsibility to protect the interest of the citizens.

“The government will take every legitimate action to ensure that those behind the scam are apprehended and brought to book,” the statement said.
