Eket Senatorial District Assembly says it has so far identified up to 12 governorship aspirants from the senatorial district in preparation for having someone from the area take over from Gov. Godswill Akpabio in 2015.
The group in a communiqué endorsed by some politicians and opinion leaders from Eket Senatorial district last month, did not however mention the names of the ‘identified’ aspirants, even as the group stated that the aspirants are “working assiduously but quietly so as not to distract the governor (Akpabio) from his uncommon transformation programme in the state”.

The group which says it has no preferred governorship candidate at the moment and that it will allow the people of the state to choose from its “array of knowledgeable and dynamic aspirants available from the senatorial district,” advised politicians from the senatorial district not to accept the position of deputy governor.
The former minister of Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, Imo Udobia, Joe Etukudo, Prof. A.J. Isangedighi and Dr. Etim Uye were among those who signed the communiqué.

Notable politicians from Eket Senatorial District said to be in the race for the Akwa Ibom governorship in 2015 are the current commissioner for Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affair, Bar. Effiong Abia, the former vice chairman of PDP in the state, Bishop Samuel Akpan, the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Obong Nsima Ekere and the current senator representing the district, Mrs. Helen Esuene. Others are: Bar. Assam Assam, Senator Etang Umoyo and Okpolum Etteh who is currently representing Esit Eket/Ibeno state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
