2015: Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District adopts Akpabio for senate

takeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Distrct have unanimously agreed to nominate and elect Chief Godswill Akpabio at the end of his tenure of office as the state Governor on May 29, 2015 as their Senator.

The decision to endorse him was taken at a meeting of stakeholders, political class and elders of the Senatorial District drawn from the 10 local government areas, convened by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien and held at Ritman College, Ikot Ekpene on Sunday, May 26, this year.


Conveying the decision to Governor Akpabio, the stakeholders who paid him a solidarity visit at Governor's lodge, Uyo, said this was a mark of appreciation for his uncommon performance and transformation of the state.

The message delivered by Senator Ibokessien noted that the meeting aforesaid had taken time to review the outstanding performance in leadership, governance and development of Governor Akpabio and the impact he has made in the last six years of his administration.

The meeting, according to him, resolved ''That the Senatorial District is completely satisfied with the leadership and performance of our son, His Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State iin the last six years which are manifest and evident in his uncommon infrastructural, human capital and socio-economic developmental strides and hereby passes a vote of absolute confidence on him''.

The stakeholders congratulated the Governor on his recent emergence as a member of Board of Trustees (BOT), PDP National caucus and a consensus pioneer Chairman of PDP Governors' Forum, and resolved to work with him and Akwa Ibom people on the choice of his successor in 2015.

Responding, Governor Akpabio accepted the resolution of his people, and noted that the endorsement was a further call to represent the people at the higher level, pledging as a Senator to correct some injustices meted to the state at the Federal level.

Akpabio affirmed ''The administration came as a result of collective gain as seen in the right foundation laid for the economic growth of the future. Sometimes, people try to suppress the truth because of egoistic, selfish and ethnic sentiments. The truth cannot be buried because it would surely resurface. They have chosen the right time to stand by him in selecting a successor because success without a successor is failure”.
