The above is an excerpt from a news report in Saturday Independent newspaper, about the naval chief, Felix Olanrewaju Odunlami whose life imprisonment for the murder of a commercial motorcycle rider in Lagos have been affirmed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court upheld the decisions of the General Court Martial and the Court of Appeal, Lagos.

Here is the other part of the story as reported by Saturday Independent:
Lieutenant Odunlami (with force number: NN2121) was traveling from Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja to Apapa on July 25, 2005 when, at Allen Roundabout, Ikeja, a commercial motorcycle ridden by Peter Edeh hit the naval officer’s car from behind.

On realising that the owner of the car was a military personnel, Edeh was said to have knelt down to beg Odunlami for forgiveness.
In anger, the naval chief ignored Edeh’s plea, reached for his pistol holster, retrieved his service pistol and shot Edeh in the mouth.

He died instantly.
Passers-by, who were attracted by the naval chief’s action, attacked him, burnt his car and almost lynched him but for the timely intervention of policemen.

Remarks by THINK AKWA IBOM! editor: We pray, the sentencing of Felix Olanrewaju Odunlami should serve as a deterrent to military men who take laws into their hands.
