Government begins clearing of refuse from the streets of Uyo

The Ministry of Environment, Akwa Ibom State, has started clearing heaps of refuse around Uyo, the capital of the State.

This afternoon, men of the Green Brigade were seen emptying refuse bins at Stadium Avenue and also around the Akpandem Market area, and the Ewet Housing Estate, and several other parts of the Uyo Capital City.

However, by 12: 30pm, at Nepa Line by Aka Road, heaps of waste dumped at the collection point by residents of the area had over-flown into the road as could be seen in the picture above. A similar situation was also observed in Ikot Abasi Street by Obio Imo Street.

For some days now, domestic wastes have been left to pile up around Uyo Capital City, prompting an outcry from the residents.
