Mr. Aniekan Umanah |
By Nse Peter
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah may
have dropped his ambition to represent the people of Abak Federal Constituency,
in the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, as his name is not among the
list of commissioners and other exco members who resigned their appointments on
Monday to pursue their political ambitions.
A press release issued from the Uyo Government today,
Tuesday, indicates that the following four persons have left Governor Godswill
Akpabio’s cabinet: Mr. Udom Gabriel
Emmanuel, Secretary to the State Government; Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim, Attonery-General and Commissioner for
Justice; Pastor Ita Umoh Udo;
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and Mr.
Iboro Ekanem, Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Monday, 21 October, 2014 was the deadline for government appointees
seeking for elective office in 2015 to resign from their current positions.
It is not yet clear why Mr. Aniekan Umanah has refused to
resign as commissioner for information.
A journalist who works in Government House, Uyo, told Think
Akwa Ibom! that some close associates of Aniekan Umanah advised him against
contesting because of the prolonged tensed relationship between Abak 5 and
Governor Akpabio.
“Besides the fact that the commissioner is not popular in
Abak where he comes from, you are aware of the ongoing battle between Abak 5
and Akpabio, and how much the people of Abak hate this administration and
everything associated with it. If the commissioner contests the election, it
would just become an avenue for the people to punish and humiliate him for
taking side with Akpabio against Abak people,” the journalist who did not want
his name mention because of the sensitive nature of the issue told Think Akwa
Ibom!
