Gov. Akpabio’s wife, Unoma may be picked as Udom Emmanuel’s running mate

Akwa Ibom First Lady, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio

By Nse Peter
The First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio is being considered as one of those that could be picked as a running mate to Mr. Udom Emmanuel who few days ago emerged as the ‘winner’ of PDP governorship primary in the state. The primary has been tainted with controversy after 22 of the governorship aspirants, including Governor Godswill Akpabio’s son-in-law, Mr. Michael Sebastian Etuk, staged a walk-out alleging irregularities and corruption, leaving Udom Emmanuel to be the only aspirant in the contest.

Before the governorship primary, the name of one of Akpabio’s most powerful commissioners, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem was flying around as the governor’s pick for Udom Emmanuel’s running mate. A source close to the Akpabios told Think Akwa Ibom! that the First Lady’s name came up for the first time yesterday during a political meeting in Abuja, after the just concluded PDP national convention.
“No, it wasn’t him (the governor) that suggested the First Lady’s name. In fact, the governor expressed shock when the wife’s name was mentioned,” said the source who claimed that it was a former military administrator of the state who brought up the suggestion.

“When he (the former military governor) suggested that the party should pick the First Lady as running mate to Udom Emmanuel, he explained to the meeting that that was one way the whole Akwa Ibom State could say ‘thank you’ to the governor and his family for all the good things they have done for the state and the people,” the source said.
The First Lady, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, though unknown to be previously involved in active politics, is one of the principal leaders of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA), the political group for Udom Emmanuel. The First Lady was seen most times taking charge of Udom Emmanuel political campaigns, during ACA’s outings in Akwa Ibom State.

Mrs. Akpabio is said to be the most powerful and influential first lady in the political history of Akwa Ibom State.

  1. After giving Mrs Akpabio the post of Deputy Governor to say thank you to Mr Akpabio, their son will then be given another position, may Presidency to say thank you to Mrs Akpabio,.....and it will go on and on and on and on like Instant Bovril.

  5. Why do people promote lies. She is not from Akwa Ibom. According to the law of the land, women can only claim the state of their father's origin. So stop promoting lies to create disaffection.

  6. Hmmmm this sounds very bogus and i don't know how much truth there is to it. If this is true though, what i will only disagree with is the way they are trying to pass her off as someone who is riding into power on the back of her husband's graces. Mrs. Unoma is a very smart woman and would make a very good Deputy governor in my opinion. I've heard her speak several times and you can't take away the passion she has for the people of akwa-ibom state. I would actually vote for Mr. Udom Emmanuel just because of her.

  8. There is nothing bad about a wife's governor going for deputy governor. Even in US, Hillary Cliton was made secretary of States after Bill Clinton's presidential . So, if someone has done well, we have to give kudos to him/her. Thank you Mrs. Akpabio

  10. This woman, even without the help of her husband is a force to be reckoned with. A woman packed with so much grace and intelligence, a very bright mind. Infact if this is true, I'd be glad!

  11. Ehen, is it a crime that she becomes deputy governor? We should be happy that a great mind like hers' is likened to such position. I pray this happens. Such an admirable woman.

  12. well it isn't such a bad idea. she has proven herself to be worthy. moreover it was suggested by someone-else not the Gov himself. so i say, she is a good candidate. Hopefully she gets chosen.

  13. 'Just to say thank you' whether it is to thank Akpabio or not, we cannot take away the fact that UNOMA, has a mind of her own and has proven to the entire Akwaibom state that she's beauty with brains. I totally and absolutely recommend her. Great woman.

  14. woww! Great. she is just perfect and that person that is saying she is not from Akwa Ibom is naive. marrying a man from anywhere automatically makes you from where ever he is from. According to records, she is clean, pro-active and loyal. i see no reason why she should be dismissed off the list sha. she will make a very good deputy.

  15. First of all, I believe this is a blatant lie. Secondly, it is clear that a particular person has commented multiple times under different identities to show support for the idea and skew public opinion in favour of this joke. Try harder...your tenses are even so similar...you need to be more creative.

  18. First of all, i don't think the wife qualifies for that position, because if memory serves me right she isn't from Akwa-Ibom, and as such cannot be considered. so Mr. writer, i'm starting to wonder if this announcement was made in your dreams.
