Mr. Umana Okon Umana, APC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State |
By Nyeneime Udofia
Often times, people do not realize that God Almighty has answered their prayers. We want it to be the way we see it, otherwise we would see nothing good at all.
God gives us opportunities to freely make changes in our lives. The opportunities are the answers to our prayers, but so many people do not know that. When we pray for families, God gives us opportunities to make that happen. When we pray for wealth, God gives us opportunities to get wealth; the opportunity could be in the form of getting excellent grades in school, getting a good job, having a business idea, being successful in what we do or relocating to a different place. But people miss such opportunities, and expect God to drop money in their bank accounts.
We had prayed for changes in the polity of Akwa Ibom State for years. Now comes the opportunity to make a change; what do we get? Some persons are working hard to oppose what they had prayed for. They want a saint sent from God to govern Akwa Ibom State. They have forgotten that God can use a wicked soul to bring about good things within the society. Saul, who prosecuted Christians for years, was used by God to achieve the largest spread of the gospel of Christ. Yes, not many trusted Saul, who later became Paul, at the initial instance. But the people gave Paul the opportunity to serve them. Do we have an opportunity to bring about the much needed changes in Akwa Ibom State? You bet! Why are we acting in a way, overlooking the opportunity that we have, and making it hard for us to achieve the changes that we have been praying for?
If the devil we know is better than the one that we do not know, why waste time and effort to work for changes for years?
One other thing that we do not consider is the fact that PDP has been taking us for granted. Since Akwa Ibom State is declared as PDP state, there is no reason to gain the confidence of the people. Simply ignore their needs. After all, you will always get them to support you. Is that it? Why should it be so? We fought against and stopped former governor, Obong Victor Attah from creating a god-father system in Akwa Ibom State. But now, we are working hard to help Akpabio maintain a god-father system. Watch out! Many of us would live toregret this if it succeeded.
The source of our problems is Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan allows Akpabio to do what he likes, as long as he can get millions from Akpabio for his (Jonathan’s) personal agenda. Akpabio knows that and he does not care for our people, especially the Ibibios. He donates to Jonathan, but fails to pay salaries. Do we want that to continue? Should we do something now to change our situation? The choice is ours.
