The All Progressives Congress has asked the Akwa Ibom State
Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, to be accountable to the people by declaring the
amount he met in the state treasury and the debt status of the state.
The state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Ita Awak, said
that in the last two months, every other governor in the country had declared
what they met in their state treasuries and their indebtedness to others.
Speaking with journalists in Uyo, on Thursday, he stated
that even President Muhammadu Buhari had told Nigerians what former President
Goodluck Jonathan left behind in the nation’s treasury.
Awak accused Emmanuel of being secretive, saying that he had
deliberately refused to disclose to the Akwa Ibom people the status of the
state’s economic and financial status.
He said the APC leadership in the state and the good people
of Akwa Ibom would not put up with Emmanuel for being insensitive to the
collective interest of the people of the state.
He said, “The leadership of the All Progressives Congress
and the good people of Akwa Ibom State shall not continue to put up with Mr.
Udom Emmanuel’s character of being insensitive to our collective sensibilities.
“It is very clear to us in the APC that Emmanuel is
secretive by refusing to tell the Akwa Ibom people the actual status of things
because he has mastered the attitude of holding Akwa Ibom people in contempt,
in the same manner that his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, did for
eight years.”
Awak, who was a former Commissioner for Information, asked
Emmanuel to tell the Akwa Ibom people without delay how much money the
government of Akpabio left in the state’s treasury as of May 28, 2015.

Please can someone explain to me which is more important - a debt inherited or a prosperity expected? If his excellency says he can move us from where we are (debt or no debt) to a state of prosperity, why don't we cut him some slack or should I say have some faith in him? Let's recall that David said he could kill Goliath with a stone and a sling and indeed he did, as bizarre as it seemed.
