A U.S-based group known as Akwa Ibom APC/UOU Support Team
(USA) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to “address the immediate and
existing challenge of election fraud that presented during the April 11, 2015
gubernatorial election especially in Akwa Ibom State” in order to boost the
confidence of Nigerians in the country’s electoral processes.
The group stated this in a press statement welcoming
President Buhari to U.S on his first official visit to the White House.
It asked the president to encourage the National Assembly to
initiate early electoral reforms like establishing an Electoral Offenses
Commission and a court system to look into electoral frauds.
“Mr. President, Nigerians voted for change. They demand change. Visible change. Tangible change. Irreversible but progressive
change,” the group said in the statement, adding that they were aware that the
president was capable and committed to providing the required leadership in
Nigeria.
The group said that Buhari’s visit will help strengthen
Nigeria’s long standing bilateral relationship with the U.S.
