Foremost Ekid leader, Mbong Mbong, is dead!

It’s a sad moment for Ekid people and the entire Akwa Ibom State! Obongiwad Mbong Mbong is dead. The sad news was posted on Facebook on Wednesday by Victor Effik, a journalist from Akwa Ibom. Mbong was a foremost youth leader in Eket and a former State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom. As its founding president, late Chief Mbong helped built Afigh Iwaad Ekid, the main youth organization in Ekid nation, and also shaped oil politics in Ekid for the benefit of his people. Read the news as posted by Victor Efik, after the cut…..

Good night brother:
A Tribute to Mbong Mbong

We used to crack a lot of jokes as mates at Govt Secondary School, Afaha Eket. He was a jolly good fellow.
Mbong had a mind of his own. You needed to come up with a superior argument to convince him to toe a particular position. He had leadership qualities and was a good Mobilizer even as a secondary school student. I am not surprised he grew up to become a political icon in our clime
He used to call me 'Efitte ' and we missed each other's company when I moved out of the state for my youth service and to begin a career in journalism in Kaduna and beyond.
Reading about his demise this morning hit me like a thunderbolt. Truly Ekid nation and the entire Akwa Ibom State has lost a gem, a youth leader, a community icon and a great politician.
Mbong's death is indeed a personal loss to me. I pray God to accept his gentle soul and to give his family the grace to bear this loss.
Good night brother. Tears aren't enough.
