A video posted on Twitter, Tuesday, showed a mob in
Nigeria attacking a commercial bus and stealing loaves of bread.
One Emma Umeh (@emmaikumeh) who posted the video on
the social media site said the incident happened in Agege, Lagos.
“The situation is getting serious,” Umeh commented on
the video he posted. He was referring to the Lagos lockdown because of the new
coronavirus. President Muhammadu Buhari has just extended the lockdown by 14
days.
Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, has remained the epicentre
of the coronavirus, with the state having 189 infections out of the 343
confirmed cases in the country as of April 13.
Lagos state and the neigbouring state of Ogun is
facing an increase in armed robbery attacks, with helpless residents resorting
to self-help.
Nigerians, unable to cope with hunger, are beginning to
call on the government to lift the lockdown and allow people to resume work and
business.
