Inibehe Effiong |

A popular human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has
said that Akwa Ibom people have never been fortunate to choose the leaders they
want.
Mr Effiong said on Saturday during an interview with
Planet 101 FM Uyo that politicians over the years have deployed money to buy
votes and to suppress the desire of the people in Akwa Ibom to elect their
governors, senators, and others.
The lawyer said the situation is worst in local
elections where “people just sit in the comfort of their room to write down names
of persons to be the local government chairman”.
He said the Nigerian electoral process is riddled with
fundamental flaws and that the law does not allow for independent candidature
in elections.
“Young people in Akwa Ibom have been totally sidelined
in leadership,” he said.
