A’Ibom 2015: PDP can win governorship without Oro’s support – Uwem Umanah, younger brother of Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah

By Nse Peter

Uwem Umanah, the abrasive and boisterous younger brother of the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State can comfortably win the 2015 governorship in the state without the votes of the Oro people.
“It should be known that the five LGAs of Oro have less than the vote of Oruk Anam,” Mr. Uwem Umanah stated recently in an email he sent to Internet discussion groups like Ibom Chronicle, Talk Hard, Ibom Global and Naija Observer, while dismissing the political significance of Oro throwing their weight behind the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.

Uwem Umanah, from the same Annang ethnic group with Governor Godswill Akpabio, works as a media assistant to his older brother, Aniekan Umanah and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem.
Umanah said the entire Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District will vote for PDP.

He said, “Having done my calculations, very little or nothing can stop the PDP from winning the governorship elections. PDP will win the governorship elections by between 68 and 70 percent of the total votes.”

“I think Oron would not make the mistake of counting from the top. They should also know that it’s better to remain in the mainstream leadership structure than floating like a ship without a destination,” said Mr. Umanah who few months ago stirred the hornets’ net when he called Akwa Ibom former governor, Obong Victor Attah ‘senile’.
The Oro, which is the third largest ethnic group in Akwa Ibom, have been consistent in voicing out their displeasure against Governor Godswill Akpabio whom they accused of not developing their area and also scheming them out in the race for the 2015 governorship. They have threatened to vote against PDP during the general election, if the party fails to give the governorship ticket to an aspirant from the area.

    PRESS RELEASE
My attention of has been drawn to a certain publication on the internet and on newsprint to the effect that I Uwemedimoh Umanah insulted ORO nation, by alleging that their votes is insignificant in the electoral process.
Ordinarily, I would not bother to glorify this allegation and their purveyors, because its source and motive are known to all who take active involvement in discourse in the social media, but for the purpose of posterity, which will always judge us based in our records, I consider it expedient to react as follows:
    · That the architects of this mischief are the media aides of Mr. Umana Okon Umana, whose desperation at being the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2015 is well known to all.
That these agents of UOU, who is considered the most corrupt politician in the political history of Akwa Ibom following available records, have resorted to mendacious blackmail, and spurious falsehood aimed at demeaning every person considered as supporters and fans of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

    • That the architects of this mischief are the media aides of Mr.

    • That I never at any point in my life described ORO nation as being politically insignificant, as history shows that I have ties and associates from ORO nation who are my allies in politics.

    • That as a PAN African historian, I would not also desecrate the culture of any African society which I have labored within the academic confines to preserve and uphold.

    • That I am one of the first group of young to agitate for a Governor from Eket Senatorial District, and Oro in particular, and therefore would not ridicule my earlier position.

    • That I said that the votes of Oro alone, or any other group is not sufficient to make a Governor, hence the need for a collective action and teamwork.

    • That I suggested that Oro should remain at the mainstream of politic of the state, despite the outcome of the PDP governorship primaries, as God gives power to whoever he wants, in the fullness of time.
I hereby call on all and sundry to discountenance the propaganda peddled by the agents of Mr Umana Okon Umana, on the internet and in the print media, as propaganda has never won anything that is sustainable, and the 2015 governorship election cannot be an exception.
That my support to His Excellency, Governor Godswill Akpabio, the leader of the PDP in the state, for providing quality leadership and political direction is unruffled.
That I will not hesitate to taking a legal action against any person or group that will further quote me off-context, without verifying from me.
