Lawmakers
from Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district in the State House of Assembly
have said they will not support Senator Aloysius Etok’s bid to return to the
National Assembly in 2015.
The
lawmakers, under the aegis of Custodian of the Mandate of Ikot Ekpene
Senatorial District, who made this known on Thursday, said they would rather
support Governor Godswill Akpabio’s aspiration to the Senate.
Etok
is a second term senator.
Speaking
through the Deputy Speaker in the Assembly, Mr. Udo Kieran, the group, in a
statement, said its decision followed Etok’s recent comment that the seat would
not be vacant in 2015.
The
statement read, “In 2015, we are not with Senator Aloysius Etok, but we are with
Governor Godswill Akpabio whom we see as a superior representative that would
do better in the Senate. We want to warn Etok to desist from assuming the
powers he does not have and to refrain from talking as if he is the sole owner
of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district.
“In
2015, Senator Etok is alone as far as Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district seat is
concerned. The people of Ikot Ekpene are withdrawing their support to him and
from now henceforth, he is strictly on his own.”
Etok
had on Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation radio programme, ‘Akwa Ibom
Today’, said Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district seat was not vacant in
2015 because the governor had not consulted with him.

One would readily say that it is the so-called custodians of a mandate that are on their own. The calibre, quality and characters of the occupants of seats on AKHA speaks volumes of what they know and represent. It is obvious that their primary constituencies are not their respective local government areas, but an individual. An assemblage of men immune from shame.
