Taking sycophancy to another level: Udom now called ‘The Messiah’

Udom Emmanuel. Is he truly 'The Messiah'?

By Nse Peter
It’s a common knowledge that sycophancy is a multi-billion naira business in Akwa Ibom State where Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio rules as the emperor over the impoverished people of the oil-rich state, but it is astonishing and sad to see young people take the business to an unimaginable level of calling Akpabio’s protégé, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, ‘The Messiah’ because he has just emerged as the PDP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom under very corrupt and unacceptable circumstances.

Think Akwa Ibom! stumbled on a Facebook post (see photo above) where one Joseph Okon addressed Mr. Udom Emmanuel as ‘The Promised Messiah’. Disgusting! Terribly disgusting!
The Free Online Dictionary defines the word ‘Messiah’ from three basic points: One, from the perspective of Judaism, The Messiah is ‘the the awaited redeemer of the Jews, to be sent by God to free them.’ Two, from the perspective of Theology, The Messiah means Jesus Christ. Three, from Government, Politics and Diplomacy perspective, The Messiah is seen as ‘an exceptional or hoped for liberator of a country or people’.

For the purpose of argument, let’s give it to Joseph Okon that when he called Mr. Udom Emmanuel ‘The Messiah’, he was referring to him as ‘an exceptional or hoped for liberator of a country or people’. Udom, liberator of the people? What is it that he is liberating Akwa Ibom people from?  Is he ‘coming’ to liberate the people from the clutches of Akpabio’s evil government? No, that cannot be Joseph Okon’s thinking. After all, Akpabio, the uncommon performer, has made all things bright and beautiful in Akwa Ibom State!
Addressing Udom Emmanuel as ‘The Messiah’ is the act of sycophancy to the next level. Simple.
