The immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has reportedly told his successor, Udom Emmanuel and some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party to prepare their minds and be ready for fresh governorship election in the state. His reasons: the proceedings at the Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Tribunal appear not to be in favour of their party.

Mr. Akpabio who now represents Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the senate reportedly said this during an emergency meeting of PDP elders in the state held in Uyo on Saturday, 22 August, 2015.
Akpabio reportedly told the PDP elders how the party’s defeat in the last presidential election has adversely affected their party’s fortunes both at the national and state level, and called on the party to start early sensitization and mobilization in case the tribunal give judgment against Mr. Emmanuel.
Apart from the present governor, other PDP leaders who attended the meeting were the state party chairman, Paul Ekpo, the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Aniekan Uko, Senator Effiong Bob, former military governor of Akwa Ibom State, Idongesit Nkanga.
A PDP leader from Eket who was at the meeting told Think Akwa Ibom! that the mood at the meeting was generally sober, except on some few occasions where Akpabio said jokes which elicited laughter from the people.
“He (Akpabio) chaired the meeting, but was constantly making reference to Udom as the governor and asking the party to support the new administration to succeed,” the PDP leader said. “He also advised Udom to carry the party along in his government so that the party could remain as a united family.”
Like Emmanuel, Akpabio’s election as a senator is also being challenged at the tribunal by the All Progressives Congress candidate, Inibehe Okori.
