16-year-old girl reportedly swept away by flood in A’Ibom

Amarachi, 16, is said to have been drowned by flood around Afaha Ube, Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo during a heavy downpour on Thursday, September 10, 2015, when she attempted to cross a road, says a report written by Victoria Akpabio and published in the Nigerian Pulse newspaper.

Amarachi, until the fatal incident, was an SS1 student in Itam Secondary School, Akwa Ibom State.

Her body hasn’t been found yet, the report says.

“The rain was very heavy, to the point that caused water to flood everywhere such that you cannot identify the road and gutter. So, when the little girl came, she did not know that the direction she was going was gutter. As she step her feet in the water and fell into the roadside gutter, the speed of the flood swept her away. So, the person that wanted to help her out could not because the speed of the flood was strong; suddenly, it dragged her away,” the report quoted an eye witness, one Nnamso Sunday, as saying.
