Nigeria captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama
has pulled out of this Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against
Tanzania. |
Sources in the Super Eagles’ camp revealed that the 33-year-old Lille OSC shot-stopper has asked to be excused from the trip to Dar es Salaam due to personal issues bordering on his family.
“Vincent was expected to arrive in the Abuja camp of the Super Eagles yesterday (Tuesday) but from what I have learned he has called in to ask for permission to be excluded from the game against Tanzania due to family reasons.
Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who has received his first call-up, could replace Enyeama in goal in Tanzania or Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Sunshine Stars.
Reacting to the news of the first choice goalie’s decision, Coach Sunday Oliseh shrugged off concerns that Enyeama’s absence would worry the camp. The gaffer insists every player will be given equal opportunity to feature for the team and none will hold the country to ransom.
