NUC accredits pharmacy programme at UNIUYO

By Eric Dumo
The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to pharmacy programme at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a letter signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor C. F. Mafiana, on behalf of the Executive Secretary; the programme was granted accreditation for a five-year period.
According to the result of the accreditation process, UNIUYO scored a total of 78.8 per cent in the areas of academic contents, staffing, physical facilities, library, employers rating and other criteria.
The latest development followed an earlier full professional accreditation of the programme by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Comfort Ekpo, said the full accreditation of pharmacy programme in UNIUYO had proven wrong earlier news of the scrapping of the course in the school.
Acting Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Arnold C. Igboasoiyi, said the double endorsement of the programme by the PCN and NUC was a clear indication of the professional and academic strength of the faculty to meet the pharmaceutical manpower needs of the country.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been concluded for the induction of the 12th set of pharmacy graduates from the institution. The event scheduled for October 6, will be conducted by the Registrar of PCN, Mr. N. A. E. Mohammed.
