Planet Radio debunks claims of partisanship in broadcasting

The management of Planet Radio 101.1 FM Uyo has debunked claims that the media outfit is a partisan radio station that reports favorably to a particular political party as against its clearly-stated stand on neutrality and equity in reportage.
Clearing the air on the matter, the Chairman and CEO of Planet Radio, Tony Afia who featured on a phone-in programme, Day-Break on Planet with Cleo, refuted claims that the radio station was not a-one-sided media outfit, and reassured the masses that planet Radio remains neutral and has come to serve the people.

While reaffirming that the station is a private radio station and as such remains very fair and neutral, Afia stated that the program; “Akwa Ibom Mandate”, anchored by Sampson Akpan is not a planet radio programme, but an independent show created and sponsored by the government to promote governor Udom Emmanuel’s developmental strides in the state.

Recalling that the station afforded the All Progressives Congress- APC the needed voice in the build-up to and during the elections to sell their manifestos to Akwa Ibom people, Affia wondered why the party should now take up the business of spreading false stories of taking sides with the government of the day.

The Planet FM boss therefore restated the media outfits mission, which is to inform, entertain and educate the people and not take sides with any political party, and urged the public to stop the publication of all articles and statements that is aimed at tarnishing the image of the privately-owned radio station.
