U.S Ambassador marks Black History Month with visit to Abuja school

The U.S Ambassador in Nigeria, Ambassador W. Stuart Symington, visited New Capital School in Asokoro, Abuja, on Friday to mark the Black History Month.

A statement posted on the Facebook page of the U.S Embassy, Nigeria, said “the Ambassador was welcomed warmly by the students and staff before he read Preaching to the Chickens: The story of young John Lewis to approximately 50 children.
“John Lewis, a hero of the Civil Rights Movement, is now a U.S. congressman, representing a district in Atlanta, Georgia,” the statement said.
The Ambassador donated books on John Lewis, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, Jr. to the school library.
“Over the next few weeks, the Ambassador and other Embassy staff plan to make several other school visits to commemorate Black History and to encourage reading,” the statement said.
