2015: Akwa Ibom SSG, Umana Okon Umana disowns campaign posters

BestMan Media Team, a media/public relations group working for the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State government (SSG), Mr. Umana Okon Umana, has disowned the political campaign posters that are in circulation around the Uyo metropolis, Akwa Ibom State, describing it as being unauthorized by the SSG. 

“Our attention has been drawn to a campaign by a group that goes by the name of Akwa Ibom Focus Initiative, seeking to draft Mr Umana Okon Umana, Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State (SSG) into the 2015 governorship race in the state. We want to restate the well-know position of the SSG that he has not declared any intention to run for office of governor of the state. Mr Umana Okon Umana is currently fully engaged with his duties as Secretary to the State Government and is preoccupied with assisting his boss, His Excellency, Governor Godswill Akpabio to realize his vision for the people of Akwa Ibom State,” the group says in a statement signed by Mr. Iboro Otongaran.

Mr. Umana Okon Umana, the group says, is yet to declare his intention to run for public office, and that “At the appropriate time he will take a decision that is in the best interest of Akwa Ibom State and inform the good people of the state accordingly”.

“The group that is carrying on with the draft campaign and claiming to be ‘earnestly asking’ Mr Umana Okon Umana to run for governor has no authorisation to do so. We are therefore asking members of the public to take note of this fact, that the group is not authorised by the SSG to carry out this campaign.”
