AK 2015 Guber’ Race: State PDP chairman, Paul Ekpo backs open contest

The chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Paul Ekpo has said the governorship in Akwa Ibom State come 2015 is going to be an open contest.

Speaking at the reception ceremony in honour of Aniefiok Thompson as a member of Cross River Basin Authority last weekend, Ekpo said it is only an open contest that can produce an acceptable governor in 2015.
According to Ekpo, the ongoing fuss about zoning is not necessary in a state like Akwa Ibom which is founded on justice and equity.

“We are looking for the best to entrench the uncommon transformation which the governor has started,” Ekpo posited. “In fact even if a credible person comes from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial, the person should be considered for the position.”

The PDP chairman maintained that the issue of zoning has been over flogged pointing out that whoever God wants to take over from Akpabio will naturally emerge in good time and people of Akwa Ibom State will collectively appreciate him or her.

Mr. Ekpo urged Akwa Ibom people to regard the issue of Akpabio successor as a brotherly and peaceful transition and in the spirit of fairplay.

He stated that he was not comfortable with the degree politicians were taking the issue of 2015 as it affect governorship position.

“Please let us remember that after the governorship contest, we must remain fellow Akwa Ibom brothers and sisters, everybody should be very mindful of what he or she does today because tomorrow is another day.”
