Akwa Ibom indigenes in South Africa elect new Exco

A new executive has been elected to provide leadership direction for Akwa Ibom indigenes who are residents in South Africa.

A press release sent to Think Akwa Ibom! indicated that Mr. Ini Akpan emerged president, Akwa Ibom Indigenes Organisation  in an election that took place at Pretoria Manor Guest House, 605 Jorissen Street, Sunnyside, Pretoria.
He took over from his predecessor, Mr. Richard Usen.
Mr Anselm Umoetok, Nqobile Akpakpan and Ntakobong Udoidiong were elected vice president, secretary and assistant secretary respectively. Other elected officers are Mbali Ibokette, treasurer and Thandeka Usen, financial secretary.
The executive was inaugurated by Chief Orok Oro, immediately after the election. The new president, Ini Akpan thanked members for the confidence they have in him and promised to uphold the constitution of the body as well as indentify with the yearnings of the members.
Akpan listed his plans for the association to include the amendment of its constitution which he said was long overdue, and acquiring a permanent secretariat for the association.
The tenure of the new executive is one year.
