Akwa Ibom State-owned club, Akwa United Football Club has
been forced to play their home matches at U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar in Cross
River State because the pitch in Uyo Township Stadium is said to be less than
standard.
Till date Governor Udom Emmanuel hasn’t told the Akwa Ibom people why
Akwa United is not allowed to play in the much talk-about new Akwa Ibom International
Stadium. The latest news is that another state-owned football club, Akwa
Starlets has not paid its coaches and footballers several months salaries,
amounting to N23million. What is really going on here in Akwa Ibom State? Where
are the trillions of naira that the state government received under Godswill
Akpabio as governor? Did Akpabio’s ‘uncommon transformation’ not reach sports
