Don’t come to Uruan and demolish buildings again, ex-Assembly member warns Udom Emmanuel

Etuk not happy with Gov Udom Emmanuel over the travail of Uruan people

Mr. Kufre Etuk has reportedly asked the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel to look elsewhere in other parts of Akwa Ibom State to continue with the demolition of so called ‘illegal’ buildings and leave Uruan Local Government Area alone.

“Don’t go to my community and demolish but refuse to do so to another place,” Etuk who represented Uruan State Constituency in the last Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly reportedly said. “Why is Uruan always the only local government usually used by the state government to start experimenting its policies?”
Etuk had had a running political battle with the then governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Godswill Akpabio before he defected from PDP to APC to contest the April, 2015 House of Assembly election which he lost.
“Uruan people are protesting, because they have had instance were government went to Nturukpm and demolish the entire village, because of kidnapping. Till date, they are still kidnapping people, but government has not done so to other places.”
The former lawmaker accused the state government of bias in the demolition exercise, saying that some of the demolished buildings were built before the creation of Akwa Ibom State. He said they were buildings in Uruan, such as the one housing the ‘Akpabiosm Centre’ that has not been pulled down by government agent because they belong to persons considered as untouchable.
“If you are saying that, there are houses that are built within 50 meters from the main road, please begin to demolish it to wherever it is going to stop, not only in my community alone,” Etuk said.
