Akpabio surrenders, as governors uphold Amaechi’s election as NGF chairman – Punch newspaper

The crisis rocking the Nigeria Governors Forum was on Monday night
resolved following the adoption of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as
the Chairman of the forum.
Amaechi had won the last NGF election with 19 votes to defeat his
main challenger, Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, who had 16 votes.

The
Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Saturday, said he supported
Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State because he approached him to be his
vice-chairmanship candidate at the election of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
Mimiko
said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Eni Akinsola.
Mimiko
said he was surprised when the camp of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State
also picked him as its candidate for the same position without his consent.

AHEAD
of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s next meeting, lobbying for the chairmanship
of the body has heightened, The PUNCH gathered on Monday.
The
different camps interested in who heads the 36-member forum, our correspondent
learnt, were not leaving anything to chance.
A
source in the anti-Governor Rotimi Amaechi camp confided in our correspondent
that the declaration of emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states had
altered the game plan.

Senate caucus to resolve Jonathan, Amaechi, Akpabio disputes

Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the Senate has resolved to wade into the
prolonged confrontation between President Goodluck Jonathan and Rivers State
Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
It
will also mediate in the conflict between Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill
Akpabio, and Senator Aloysius Etok.

of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, has
described Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as a traitor.
According
to him, since the governor joined forces with the North to work against
President Goodluck Jonathan, he has betrayed the people of the Niger Delta.
