Governor Godswill Akpabio has allegedly ordered security officials
to forcefully lock up the office of the state Accountant-General located within
the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, along Ibrahim Babangida Avenue, Uyo.
It is not yet clear if the Accountant-General, Mr. Udo Hilary
Isobara has been arrested or not.
The office block which also houses the Akwa Ibom State Board of
Internal Revenue Service is said to have been cordoned off, Friday morning, by
a team of security officials from Government House who carted away computers
and office documents, according to a source who works in the state civil
service.
Several other civil servants who spoke with Think Akwa Ibom! corroborated
the story, and expressed concern over the whereabout of the Accountant-General, Mr. Udo Hilary
Isobara.
Though no official reason has been given for the government action,
an aide to Godswill Akpabio told Think Akwa Ibom! that the governor suspects
that the Accountant-General is among
those in his administration who have funded the opposition against the
governor, within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the party’s
governorship primaries.
Isobara is from the same Essien Udim Local Government Area, with
Akpabio.
