Think Akwa Ibom! gathered that Mr. Thompson Essien, a
U.S-based Akwa Ibom indigene, cooked up some lies which he spread about the APC
governorship candidate, Mr. Umana Okon Umana on the Internet. Mr. Essien did not only lie that Umana paid a
whooping N4 Billion to APC to emerge as the party’s flag bearer in the
forthcoming governorship election in Akwa Ibom State, but claimed that the
'information' was let out by the former minister of Women Affairs, Obong RitaAkpan. A furious Rita Akpan (pictured above) fired back at Thompson Essien with an open letter
which has already been published on the Internet. In the letter, Obong Akpan
says Thompson Essien is a fugitive in the U.S. Read Rita Akpan’s letter to

Open letter to Thompson Essien
By Obong Rita Akpan
Thompson,
I hate to join issues with adults who have the mentality of
monors. I must have met you somewhere in
Akwa Ibom before your migration to the United States; but I really do not know
you. From the trash you floated in the social media about me and Umana Okon
Umana’s presumed wealth, I now know you a little. Your type abounds in Akwa
Ibom State – people who are compulsive and malicious liars, serial blackmailers
and overzealous wimps – who take morbid delight in pulling down their fellow
men. It is only your type who will so uncritically accept and then proceed to
irrationally and maliciously spread the silly lie that I was witness to Umana
dolling out some N4 billion to bribe APC National officers who came to conduct
the party’s gubernatorial primaries in Akwa Ibom State. What a trash!
I truly find it amusing that as a fugitive that you are, you
find it convenient to sit pretty in your cocoon in the United States and
believe all the lies that your partners in crime transmit to you about Umana
Umana in Akwa Ibom State; and without cross checking, you go to town. It is
amazing that we have a major problem and a monumental distraction in our state
and you cannot summon the courage to comment on it, or even come back home to
contribute your quota to its resolution. Thompson, let me ask you this
question: why do you hate Umana Okon Umana so irrationally? Oh! I know why! It
is because your friend and leader had asked you to. And you have obliged your
friend because you lack the spine to make an independent decision. You have to
take everything your fellow blackmailers tell you hook, line and sinker.
Take my advice, Thompson. Grow up! Be your own man. Go and
get yourself something worthwhile and more creative to do and leave Umana Umana
alone! If he has enough money and is concerned enough to invest it in the
selfless effort to redeem Akwa Ibom people from monumental hardship and
poverty, he should be encouraged and not vilified.
Like I have already said, I don’t want to join issues with
you; water finds its level. But let me tell you that I am not in your league,
not by age nor by character, and certainly not by status. You definitely cannot
pull me down because I have Christ in me. I wish you well.
Obong Rita Akpan
