Akwa Ibom election: Itu rejects Akpabio’s bags of rice

Governor Godswill Akpabio

By Nse Peter

Governor Godswill Akpabio’s last minutes effort to get the support of the people of Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State for the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has reportedly failed, as the Paramount Ruler of the area, Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang is said to have rejected bags of rice sent to the people by the governor.

A senior PDP member in Itu who did not want his name mentioned in the report because he wasn’t authorised to speak on it, told Think Akwa Ibom! that two trucks loaded with bags of rice drove into the paramount ruler’s residence in Oku Iboku, Thursday night, accompanied with Governor Akpabio’s aides. When the governor’s aides told Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang that the rice were gifts from Akpabio and that they were meant to be shared to the people of the area for their anticipated electoral support for PDP, the paramount ruler reportedly ordered them out them out of his palace.
“I am not in the position to say why he rejected it. Maybe he saw it as an insult to himself and his people,” said the source.
Apart from Itu people accusing Governor Akpabio’s administration of not building roads, hospitals, schools and other infrastructures for them, the area is a key APC local government area.
