APC open to continuous discussion on resource control, says Osinbajo

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that “resource control is something Nigerians should keep negotiating because if you produce resources you ought to be adequately compensated for it.”
Yemi Osinbajo who stated this, Wednesday, during an interaction in Uyo with youths drawn from the South South region of the country, said APC administration will promote true federalism in Nigeria.
Osinbajo gave reasons why ethnic-based groups like Afenifere, Ohaneze Ndigbo and Arewa Consultative Forum where flourishing in Nigeria. “It is the failures of government that make Nigerians feel safe and comfortable under groups like Afenifere, Arewa and others.

“If we want to win as a country we must aggregate our strength. Like we do to our national football teams, every Nigerian always wants them to win, we are careless about where the players come from,” Osinbajo said.
The APC vice presidential candidate spoke on a wide range of issues, while responding to questions asked by youths who had gathered in Uyo to listen and interact with him.
On the threat of insurgency in north east Nigeria, Prof. Osinbajo who rated Nigeria’s army as being among the world’s best accused the government of President Goodluck Jonathan as not buying enough arms and equipment for the army to use in fighting Boko Haram. He recalled how some soldiers went on mutiny because they had complained that they weren’t able to fight the Islamic terrorist group without arms and ammunitions.
“If twenty girls with rich background in Abuja were the ones kidnapped by Boko Haram, the federal government would not have rested until the girls were found. But it is not so with the Chibok girls because they are from poor families and nobody has given any serious thought on how to rescue them.
“APC government will do things differently because Buhari as the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Army would be in the fore-front of the war against Boko Haram, and not sit in his comfort zone,” Osinbajo said.
Osinbajo told the youth that APC has a workable plan to ensure that Nigerians youths are more employable when they leave school. “We have programmes that will train and prepare youths for them to be employable. Someone who graduated from the English department of a university, for instance, could be trained under Executive Assistantship Training Programme that could prepare them in the areas of letter writing, report writing etc for him to function as executive assistant.
“There are some Master’s Degree holders who aren’t employable in Nigeria today. It is not just about you being a graduate, the question is can you organise a company meeting? Can you draw up agenda for a business meeting?”
Osinbajo also spoke on APC’s policy of free education. He said, “This part of the world that we are, require the government to subsidize education as much as possible because of the level of poverty.
“I have worked in the university system for several years and I am aware that in the universities there are computer departments that do not even have computers. And you can’t have a good academic environment without sending teachers on training and further training.”
APC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Okon Umana who was present at Osinbajo’s interaction with youths described the meeting as being rewarding. He said APC was offering hope to Nigerian youths, and promised to complete the Science Park started by the administration of Obong Victor Attah, which he said would enable Akwa Ibom State  key into the plan by APC at the national level to establish technology parks across the country.
