In a surprise change of political tide, Monday, Mr. AniekanUko (pictured above), the new member, representing Ibesikpo-Asutan State
Constituency, was elected speaker in the inaugurated Akwa Ibom State House of
Assembly. The two previous contenders to the office of the speaker, Mr. Onofiok
Luke (Nsit Ubium) and Mr. Ime Okon (Ibiono Ibom), both of them ranking
lawmakers, lost out because of the overbearing political influence of the
immediate past governor of the state, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
