Why we are detaining airport workers – Gov Udom Emmanuel

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has clarified the circumstance surrounding the detention of some workers in the Ibom International Airport.

He said their arrest and detention was occasioned by their unruly behaviour where they blocked the runway posing danger to the landing of Aircraft at the Airport and that such action violates international regulatory guidelines of Airport operations.
He recalled that some staff at the Ibom International Airport had demanded for outrageous monetary compensation following their deployment to ministries and parastatals.
The Governor wondered why the staff chose to make such demands and disrupted flight operations thereby risking the safety of aircrafts as well as passengers.
He described it as an act of sabotage explaining that their action warranted the intervention of security agents who promptly arrested the perpetrators to answer for their criminal actions.
Governor Udom Emmanuel used the occasion of his attendance at a traditional marriage between Mr. Iniobong Ufang and Miss Imaobong Duncan held at Awa-Ima in Onna Local Government Area of the State to clarify the circumstances of the detention.
He congratulated the couple for their decision to come together in matrimony and charged them to uphold the sanctity of Marriage.

  1. Thank you our able governor. You have done noble.Don't mind the useless things and their stupid actions. They are not thankful that they were redeployed to work elsewhere rather than loosing their jobs. One would not forget the unruly behaviours of some of the staff of the Akwa Ibom state International Airport. Some lazy bunch like them were there to continue extorting money from inmocent passengers. Take a look at the facilities there like the toilets. They cannot even keep it clean. What they are after is who has which big luggage to demand for extra charges, FAAN fees etc. The airport itself sometimes get stuffy because the air conditioners are not routinely maintained. Those idiots should be detained there for at least 365 days with hard labour. Dear governor, please change the housekeeping contractor and deploy competent hands to keep the airport clean and hygienic. Put a law that any staff caught demanding or begging for tips from any passenger would be summarily dismissed . This shameful act should not be seen in our state like what is practice at Lagos airports. Enough is enough.
